The Pinotage is E-Bike friendly!

The FNB Wines2Whales Pinotage will once again host 2 dedicated E-Bike events. E-Mountain Bike riders will have a choice between the E-Mountain Bike Race (starting 30 minutes before the A bunch) or the E-Mountain Bike tour (starting 1 hour behind the last start group).

The E-Bike Open is for any team with one, or both, teammates on an e-bike, However, riders who fall too far behind and are caught by later start groups will be moved to the E-Bike Tour for the remaining stages. The E-Bike Tour is for any team where one, or both, teammates are on e-bikes.

The Tour is aimed at riders and stage race newbies who would like to enjoy the incredible FNB Wines2Whales route in a friendly, controlled, and guided manner.

E-BIKE SERVICES

Whether you are taking on the 2025 FNB Wines2Whales as a racing snake or an E-Bike first timer, battery strategy is an important aspect of your ride. 

All E-Bike riders have the option of buying the battery swap service which allows you to have a spare battery ready and waiting for you at Water Point 2 each day. 

Battery Check-in times: 05:00 – 6:30am

This service is highly recommended and can be bought at a cost of R270 per rider.  If you have not purchased this service and would like to do so, please visit the Info Desk at Registration day to book yours.

*Please Note: Riders in the E-Bike Open category with a battery swop package/battery extender are not eligible for the E-Bike Leader Jersey

A shuttle service will be available from Water Point 1 to Water Point 2 should you wish to avoid the compulsory portage down Gantouw pass on Stage 3.

Please note that this service is exclusively for E-Bike Tour teams and all E-Bike Open teams must complete the portage.  Shuttles will depart as they fill up and the expected travel time is approximately 40 minutes.  

LEADER JERSEY

The 2025 FNB Wines2Whales E-Bike race will see the introduction of podiums and a leader’s jersey for the following categories, with no battery changes permitted.

  • E-Bike Open Men (19+)
  • E-Bike Open Women (19+)
  • E-Bike Open Mixed (19+)

Teams who opt for the battery change or who use a battery extender* will be allowed in the E-Mountain Bike Race category but will not be eligible to compete for the E-Bike Leader’s Jerseys. The E-Bike Battery Swap Service (1 battery swap per stage) can be purchased with your entry under Option Extras at the cost of R270 per rider. 

*PLEASE NOTE: Battery extenders are regarded as a 2nd battery – unless you have an E-Bike with a 400w or less battery power

It is important to note that in order to qualify for the E-Bike Open podium and leader jersey, both team members must ride on an E-bike. Riders with a battery swop package are not eligible for the E-Bike Leader Jersey
